This is our excellent new high-performing Offset Soapbar P90-Bucker, with it's dynamic 100% single coil sound it sounds heaps better than our non-event Sidewinder and, at $149 it's not expensive considering it is an excellent sounding noiseless P-90.

It is no deeper than a regular P-90 and will definitely fit all P-90 cavities, absolutely no routing needed. It sounds exactly like our 100% single coil sounding P90-Bucker which is a standard sized humbucker and that's really saying something.  Also available in our Twang-Bucker design with Alnico rod magnets.

Also, this new Offset Soapbar is available with 53mm pole spacing  .... as well as 50mm and 47.5mm pole spacings that provides perfect string-over-pole alignment regardless of bridge spacing.  We supply the appropriate pole spacing according to the bridge specified in your order.

Installation

Consider including our optional non-magnetic mounting plate kit, it makes install fast n easy because you don't have to drill holes in the precise position for the pickups mounting screws in cavity floors.  Do NOT use original Gibson mounting plates, being magnetic will dramatically compromise the hum cancelling ability of the P-90 Hx.

Connections

  • Bare wires for soldering.
  • Kinman connectors for plugging into a Kinman Strat, Tele or KHP-90 No-Soldering harness.
  • Gibson 2 wire & 5 wire Quick Connect circuit board connectors shown below.

Output Polarity: 

  • in-phase with all other Kinman pickups
  • in-phase with Gibson and Copy humbuckers
  • opposite phase to Fender Strat
  • Fender pickups have opposite output polarity so consider Kinman's Strat models which have same output polarity.

Pot & Capacitor values

  • Best with 250k Ohm for Volume.  Many Gibson's have 300k which is OK too. 500k causes ragged trebles..
  • Normal Tone pot is 500k however to maximize clarity use a No-Load or alternatively a 1 Meg Ohm tone pot.
  • Normal tone cap value of 0.022µF in 63 ~ 100 volt Polyester.  Smaller value lessen the severity of Treble cut, higher values increase it.

Cavity depth

  • No need to deepen the pickup cavity in ANY guitar that has normal cavities for P-90's. 

Pole spreads

  • 53mm pole spread for bridge position of Stratocasters or with any bridge having saddle spread of 54+mm.
  • 50mm for Gibsons or bridges having saddle spread of 50mm ~ 54mm.
  • 47.5mm for neck position of Gibsons and Epiphones.  Assures perfect string-over-magnet alignment.

Covers

  • Kinman Universal Soapbar covers in genuine Gibson Cream, Warm White, Aged White, Black and Nickel-Silver suitable for all 3 pole spreads.
  • Generic Korean covers
    • 53mm pole spread for bridge position in Stratocasters Cream and Black only.
    • 50mm pole spread available in White, Black, Cream and Chrome.
    • 47.5mm pole spreads available in Black & Cream only.
  • Not suitable for Dog-Ear covers

Hook-up cable

  • The Budget P90-Bucker Soapbar has 2 conductor cable. 3 conductor optional.
  • Length is 380mm / 15".

Mounting hardware

  • 2 or 3 Long 3-48 UNC mounting screws, Phillips drive.
  • 2 or 3 Silicon Rubber tube springs.
  • handy drill guide template for positioning the screw holes in the virgin floor of the pickup cavity of a project guitar or guitars with freshly deepened cavities.
  • OPTIONAL extra:  Soap-bar cavity mounting plate, including all screws and springs.  It's non-magnetic and won't interfere with hum cancellation.

I installed these in the bridge and neck positions of a Riviera P93 (which originally came with 3 dogear pickups). Of course, they're absolutely hum-free (more-so than the Gibson ’57 classic humbuckers I've got in another guitar), and that's great.

The mounting plates were very useful for me.  The tilt adjustment option is also fantastic for matching the steep cavity-to-neck angle on this guitar.

The sound profile of the pickups seems quite good to me, but I’m still experimenting with overall pickup and pole heights a bit.  I found bringing the pickups closer to the strings has made a big difference to increasing the punch factor.

Very happy with how these are sounding now.
